BCTRHT Team

PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release January 15, 2025

Battle Creek, MI – On January 21, 2025, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., the Battle Creek Coalition for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (BCTRHT) invites the media to join our National Day of Racial Healing event at the Battle Creek DoubleTree (50 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49017). This year’s theme, From Visioning to Action, emphasizes unity, reflection, and actionable change through diverse cuisines, cultural performances, and meaningful conversations. The event is full sold out at 300 registered community members.

The evening will also mark a key milestone for BCTRHT, with the unveiling of its vision for the future, highlighting plans to advance racial equity throughout Battle Creek and build a community free from racism.

Honoring Martha Leone Brown and the Hearts Campaign

This year, the Hearts Campaign is being held in memory of Martha Leone Brown, whose steadfast belief in the power of love has inspired generations in Battle Creek. Her warm smile, wise counsel, and vision for a united community live on in every red heart displayed and every conversation shared.

In tribute to Martha’s legacy, large red hearts will be posted across the city, serving as a visual reminder of love, healing, and shared humanity. We invite the community to reflect on her impact and engage with the following prompts, either individually or with others:

  • What does it mean to recognize another person’s humanity?

  • How can you show love as an act of healing in your community?

Community members are encouraged to share their reflections and stories inspired by these prompts during the event or on social media, tagging #BCTRHT and #HowWeHeal.
