Winter - A Season for Rest and Renewal

Geese enter the Battle Creek River on Feb. 16, 2021. Alyssa Keown | The Battle Creek Enquirer

At BCTRHT, our vision is a shared humanity where all thrive. As we navigate the challenges and political unrest of our time, we invite you to follow nature’s lead this winter. In this season of stillness, let’s take a step back—not to disengage, but to rest, reflect, and prepare for the renewal that lies ahead.

Our work has always existed and will continue to exist, but we recognize that progress is not sustainable without pause. This is a moment to slow down, listen deeply, and set thoughtful intentions for the impact we want to create in 2025.

Listening to Nature and Each Other

Winter reminds us of the art of listening—to ourselves, to one another, and to the world around us. In the stillness of this season, we are called to pay attention. What truths are emerging? What lessons can we carry forward? Listening doesn’t mean rushing to respond; it means holding space for understanding.

Reflecting on Values and Beliefs

This season invites us to reconnect with our values and beliefs. What do you hold dear? What principles guide your actions? Winter provides the opportunity to reflect on these questions and anchor yourself in the vision and purpose that matter most.

Suspending Judgment

One of the most transformative practices we can embrace is suspending judgment. Just as nature allows itself time to rest and regenerate without rushing or forcing outcomes, we, too, can approach ourselves and others with greater compassion and curiosity. Judgment limits connection; by setting it aside, we make room for growth and understanding.

Rest as an Act of Renewal

Winter is a time when the earth rests, conserving its energy for the renewal of spring. We are no different. Rest is not a luxury or an indulgence—it is necessary. By allowing yourself this time, you are building the strength and clarity needed for the work ahead.

Preparing for 2025

As the new year approaches, let this season be a time to pause and reflect on what’s possible. What do you hope to achieve in 2025? How can we nurture our relationships, deepen our connections, and continue the work of creating a thriving, equitable community? Resting and reflecting now prepares us to meet these challenges with energy and intention.

Our Invitation

This winter, we call on you to pause. Take a step back to reflect, to rest, and to reconnect with what matters most. Listen deeply, suspend judgment, and honor the values that guide you. Together, let’s prepare for the season of renewal ahead, ready to build a stronger, more compassionate world.

In shared humanity,

The BCTRHT Team
